LoRa is a long-range wireless transmission technology based on spread spectrum technology, and it is one of many LPWAN communication technologies. It was first developed and promoted by the American Semtech company. This technology provides users with an easy way to achieve long-range, low-power wireless communication. At present, LoRa mainly works in the ISM frequency band, including 433, 868 and 915 MHz.

LoRa is a low power local area network wireless standard created by Semtech Corporation. Low power is generally difficult to cover long distances, and long distances generally require high power consumption. The name LoRa stands for long-range radio, and its biggest feature is that it can transmit farther than other wireless methods under the same power consumption, achieving the unity of low power consumption and long distance. Under the same power consumption, it can transmit 3-5 times farther than traditional wireless radio frequency communication.

The advantage of LoRa is the long-distance capability. A single gateway or base station can cover an entire city or hundreds of square kilometers. At a given location, the distance depends largely on the environment or obstacles, but LoRa and LoRaWAN have a link budget, which is better than any standardized communication technology. Link budget, usually expressed in decibels (dB), is the primary factor in determining distance in a given environment.

LoRa has the following characteristics:

Transmission distance: 2-5 kilometers in the urban area, up to 15 kilometers in the suburbs

Working frequency: ISM frequency band, including 433, 868, 915 MHz, etc.

Capacity: One LoRa gateway can connect thousands of LoRa nodes

Transmission rate: hundreds to tens of kbps, the lower the rate, the longer the transmission distance

Modulation method: Based on spread spectrum technology, linear modulation spread spectrum is a variant with forward error correction capability

LoRa network composition:

A LoRa network usually consists of four parts: terminal device, gateway device, network server and application server.

The terminal device is generally a small module or an embedded module. The transmission distance of such devices can reach several kilometers, such as water and electricity meters, smoke alarms, pet trackers, logistics locators, etc.

The gateway device is generally used to receive the data sent by the terminal device and send it together. Therefore, it is often called the Laura Concentrator. According to the network that sends data, it can be divided into LoRa-Ethernet gateway and LoRa-4G gateway.

The network server is generally a server in the cloud, which is used to process the parameters uploaded by the LoRa gateway and nodes, and belongs to the device server.

Application servers are client-facing servers that transform data and serve it to users.

Ebyte has cooperated with Semtech to develop more than 100 LoRa modules and devices in China, with transmission distances ranging from 1 km to 40 km, meeting various medium and long-distance transmission application scenarios. The products are sold to more than 50 countries and regions around the world. Here are some recommended products:
