WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network) is a type of WAN (Wide Area Network). Unlike WAN (Wide Area Network), WWAN's connection is wireless. WWAN uses technologies such as 4G, Gigabit LTE and 5G as an important part of the WAN infrastructure to connect smart home devices, studios, vehicles, IoT devices, etc. at the edge of the network. WWAN can provide regional, national and global wireless network coverage. Wide area networks can be wired or wireless, while wireless WAN connections are wireless. In our daily lives, we use wireless WANs of different sizes and rely entirely on them to make phone calls, web pages and streaming videos, share data, etc.

A common application of WWAN in our daily lives is that laptops with wireless network cards installed can establish a secure and fast connection and connect us to the network so that we can work and play anywhere.

Disadvantages of WWAN:

Transmission speeds are reduced compared to physical connections. Also, throughput decreases as distance increases.

Features of WWAN:

Highly reliable, wireless broadband is a radio connection that is immune to interference from equipment damage, such as an excavator accidentally cutting a fiber line.

Flexible, 5G and LTE can be deployed immediately, without the need to spend weeks or even months installing wired lines. Wireless networks are also easy to migrate to another room, location, vehicle or location.

Scalable, cellular networks are designed to support millions of endpoints across the country. Setting up a link in a new branch or vehicle takes only hours, not weeks.

Application scenarios of wireless wide area network (WWAN):

  1. Mobile communication

WWAN is usually used for mobile communication, such as voice calls, text messages and Internet access. This is especially useful for people who need to stay connected at home, in the office or at home entertainment.

  1. Infrastructure

WWAN can use a combination of indoor and outdoor hardware devices to meet its coverage requirements. Indoor environments usually use small base stations and indoor access point devices to ensure the best performance of WWAN inside buildings. Outdoor access point devices fill the gaps between buildings and help achieve 100% coverage. Outdoor hardware devices are weatherproof and reinforced to withstand bad weather.

   3.Intelligent system

can be used for intelligent network applications such as monitoring conditions, predicting power demand, managing power distribution, etc., which is conducive to improving the reliability and efficiency of power transmission, reducing costs, and increasing the construction of green energy power stations.

  1. Environmental monitoring

WWAN can also be used for environmental monitoring. Environmental information is collected through sensor devices, such as monitoring air quality, water quality, and atmospheric conditions, and fed back to the server side for staff to view the information, which can be used to guide decision-making and carry out environmental management.

In general, WWAN has a variety of applications that can support various businesses and improve people's daily lives. By providing wireless connections within the geographical area where we live, WWAN can support mobile communications, fleet management, public health, smart networks, environmental monitoring, and other applications that can improve efficiency, safety, and maintainability.
