V. Introduction to Product System
Serial servers are a common device in the Internet of Things (IoT) that are mainly used to convert between serial devices and network devices. For those involved in industrial IoT, serial servers are not unfamiliar. But what exactly is a serial server? Today we will use a brief article to fully understand what a serial server is.
I. Introduction to Serial Servers1.1 Definition
A serial server is a conversion device that can convert local serial data interfaces such as RS-232/485/422 into network data interfaces with TCP/IP protocol, enabling a serial device to achieve remote data transmission, extend the communication distance of serial devices, and can also be used for remote control and management of devices.
The emergence of serial servers has brought great convenience to many fields that require remote control, data transmission, and monitoring. Through serial servers, users can connect to computers via the Internet from anywhere in the world, thereby storing, managing, and remotely controlling machine equipment.
1.2 Advantages of Serial Servers
Serial servers have the following advantages:
-
Extend the communication distance of serial devices. Through serial servers, serial devices can immediately have TCP/IP network interface function, connect to the network for data communication, and thus extend the communication distance of serial devices.
-
Provide remote control and data transmission functions. Through serial servers, users can connect to computers via the Internet from anywhere in the world, thereby storing, managing, and remotely controlling machine equipment.
-
Improve data transmission efficiency. Serial servers can convert serial devices into TCP/IP network interfaces, achieve bidirectional transparent transmission of data, and thus improve data transmission efficiency.
-
Support virtual serial port protocol. Serial servers can support virtual serial port protocol, so that users do not need to change the original PC software.
2.1 Device Connection
Generally, serial server interfaces are usually serial ports (more RS485), Ethernet ports (usually RJ45 specifications), and power interfaces (with different power ranges). Connect the serial port cable, network cable, and power of the serial server in order, and the network cable can be connected to switches, routers, computers, etc.
2.2 Basic Parameter Configuration
Serial servers can generally be modified by web pages, AT commands, and parameter configuration software. The parameters that need to be configured are usually composed of serial port parameters and network parameters. Serial port parameters include baud rate, data bits, stop bits, parity, etc.; network parameters usually include IP address, gateway, working mode, server address, port, etc.
III. Application Fields of Serial ServersSerial servers are widely used in access control/attendance, industrial automation, parking lot management, remote monitoring, charging piles, high-speed toll stations, and other fields.
IV. Classification of Serial ServersAccording to the number of different serial device connections, serial servers are generally divided into single-port, dual-port, four-port, eight-port, sixteen-port, etc.; according to the type of serial port, they are divided into RS485 serial servers, RS232 serial servers, RS422 serial servers; according to different product forms, they are divided into pin-type serial servers, patch-type serial servers, device-level serial servers, etc., to adapt to various application scenarios.
V. Introduction to Product SystemChengdu Yibai Te Electronics Technology Co., Ltd. was established in 2012. It is a high-tech enterprise that integrates research and development, production, and sales, and has a complete industrial chain. It focuses on the networking application of serial devices and has nearly 100 invention and utility model patents. It has a complete serial server product system.
